• The telecommunications sector is government-owned.(1, 2)
  • The news sector is government-owned.
  • Petrol companies are owned by the government.( 1)
  • They have extensive social welfare programs.( 1)

And that is why it suffers from a lot of issues.

Here’s an argument I think is similar to yours.

Apples are red (hyperlinks to multiple images of apples, all red, all red delicious variety)

As you can see, the red color causes apple’s taste to be divisive with many people saying apples have a sandy and bad texture.

You have ignored the fact that UAE has history, culture, politics, resources, etc that may have bearing on its “issues”. You have not expounded on those issues or how they may be related to some of the facts about UAE that you selected.

I could just as easily say that UAE is located near coveted land which has caused wars which have caused UAE issues. I could argue that UAE has only oil as a natural resource, and not having access to more diverse natural resources (ie food) has caused UAE issues. I could say having a non representative government has cause UAE issues. I could say UAE has a flag that can be confused for its neighbors, and that had caused issues.

Not at all. OP seems to mistake socialism and authoritarism.

      From the wikipedia page:

The UAE is an authoritarian federal monarchy. According to The New York Times, the UAE is “an autocracy with the sheen of a progressive, modern state”. The UAE has been described as a “tribal autocracy” where the seven constituent monarchies are led by tribal rulers in an autocratic fashion. There are no democratically elected institutions, and there is no formal commitment to free speech. According to human rights organisations, there are systematic human rights violations, including the torture and forced disappearance of government critics.

I believe you’ll struggle to find actual socialist thinkers endorse this kind of government.

Premise: UAE is socialist (you started to argue this)

Premise: UAE has issues (you did not even start to argue this)

Conclusion: these issues are a result of socialism (there is no way for anyone to begin determining the truth of the conclusion because the premises are under argued and the conclusion not connected to the conclusion)

So most people’s vision of socialism doesn’t involve slaves (not that I’m a socialist but let’s get our facts straight). Also what issues?

But the government is ruled by monarchies made up of several families.

I would argue its the monarchy that causes the issues or in other words the lack of democracy and rights for the citizens. I do understand unlike most here that you do not mean socialism in its pure politcal form but rather social policies like what folks like myself would like. I would not give up democracy for them though. I would argue that finland is the democratic form of this. Money from natural resources going toward social programs. Since its a democracy though the citizens have freedoms and the money is also invested for the future to keep the system sustainable and no one is looking to bribe the citizenry so much as the folks want basic needs covered and things to be done in a civilized fashion.
