Viral memes are born out of mutation, much like new viral diseases
I brought one into the office because we only had 1 plunger between 2 stalls
I just scheduled an appointment, after about 1.5 years
So yeah, I can relate
The downvotes aren’t surprising; it’s not a very popular idea
I still think it’s an idea worth exploring, though
Businesses won’t support Linux if they can’t sell something, and it gives us access to the code
We should have more “source available, but you still need to pay for it” licenses
Best of both worlds, the company still gets to sell a product, and we can inspect the source, or even submit PR’s (and maybe get a little kickback (but that’s pie in the sky))
Granted, it’s super easy to remove the license restrictions with the source available
That’s a lot of zeros, when written like that
I said nothing about socialism
I said “political propaganda messaging”, of which i find annoying even if they support my political views
You know, I thought that, with Lemmy being less popular than Reddit, there would be less political propaganda messaging on here
But it seems I’m mistaken
I just had this happen to me
I pulled a literal ball of pet fur out of the optical sensor
Jeans suck, overalls rule
To be fair, it wasn’t something most of us were thinking about in the early 2000’s
Then Google became ubiquitous, to the point where we didn’t question it. Like cell service
Use a spectroscopic app on your phone
It’ll help you identify the source of high pitch sounds
I once noticed an external HDD was making a high pitch noise intermittently, as the LED turned on and off. It was bizarre
Edit: spalling
I wonder how tough it would be to set up an “open source” style news media / investigative journal. Ideally using crowdfunding
Something without an incentive for metrics chasing
I feel like that would cause false positives
Then again, not that many people mess with their router
We don’t have the longterm statistics to say one way or the other
But my gut tells me that there are significantly less carcinogens in vape juice than cigarettes (or anything burning)
Edit: I’m not condoning vaping either. I think it’s very stupid to vape, especially if you weren’t a smoker prior. I’m just saying vaping hasn’t been around long enough to draw definite conclusions
I can see it being used as a quitting tool, though
As a 27yo, I’m still trying to figure out how to better organize myself. I was one of those kids that never had to take notes in school
And now that’s coming back to bite me, because I’m completely new to note-taking, but am working on large 20yo code bases with tons of tech-debt and spaghetti madness. Along with tons of technical jargon in a completely different field. I just can’t keep all that in my head anymore
The point is, i feel like an adult in certain aspects, and a child in others
I recently broke the networking stack by uninstalling ca-certificates
I was using a slightly risky command to delete unneeded packages, and for some reason ca-certificates
was on the list
At least the fix was simple. Boot the rescue iso and reinstall them
Let’s not spin our wheels on this
